Decision Time

Almost since I started college, I have been certain that just getting a degree in Electrical Engineering won’t be enough to satisfy me. Judging from what I’ve experienced so far, my EE degree program isn’t even going to be very stimulating. Seems like we will just be fed the information necessary to make things work, but not the knowledge and theory behind it. And that’s what I want to know. Equally as long as the realization, I have been thinking about double majoring, either in Mathematics or Computer Science. I have hesitated to commit myself to either course, because I want to know the math, but feared it might be too general a knowledge base to be useful, and I wanted to know computer science, but I feared it might be too specific a knowledge base to be useful. But, I’ve been reading some books on parsing and formal languages, some of the branches of computer science I find most interesting, and I have reached the conclusion that if I get a degree in Math, that would greatly facilitate my learning computer science, whereas the reverse isn’t true. And, if I do Math, even better, I’ll have a headstart on just about every field of science which I’m interested in. So I have decided to dbl-major in Mathematics. Yippee!
