Switched servers (tangentspace.net is now at a new IP address)
Once again, I have to give my hosting service providers props. I’ve been overrunning my data transfer allowance for months now, but they’ve just called me on it, in a rather nice manner. In fact, they offered me a discount on the overrun — instead of $1/Gb over, it’ll be just 60 cents– and recommended I switch over to another server on which, for whatever reason, the bandwidth is cheaper. That involves moving the entire virtual partition over to another machine, and dealing with a new IP; with this option, an extra $150Gb transfer/mo. would only cost an additional $10.
Immediately after I got the notice, I submitted a support ticket to take this recommendation; they carried it out within 15 minutes. I then switched the DNS records to point to the correct IP, and thought everything was fine. But this morning I tried accessing the site and got some 404 errors; they got those fixed within 15 minutes of me reporting them!
The take-away message is that Rimuhosting rocks: they offer great features (ssh access, unrestricted port access, etc.), and their support is incredible. I’ve found providers that purport to offer the same features for cheaper prices, but my experience with Rimuhosting has been so positive that I can’t imagine switching without knowing that I’d get the same level of support. Their motto is apt: “Mighty Linux servers. Support worth raving about.”
If you’re looking for high quality web hosting, I recommend you give Rimuhosting a good long look.
